After infiltrating Cobra Island, the fan-picked squad of Joes known as the Assault Recon Team uncovered clues to Cobra Commander's ambitious plot to spread COBRA's evil beyond Earth.

COBRA's latest invention — dubbed Project M.A.S.S.I.V.E.* — takes the technology of Destro's original teleportation device and amplifies it with an unearthly energy source to create a transdimensional space portal.

Acting on intel provided by an anonymous informant within COBRA, the Assault Recon Team successfully confiscated a secret letter from Cobra Commander's private safe. This sinister missive revealed the existence of Operation E.C.L.I.P.S.E.** — an effort to harness an unknown power source capable of energizing the space portal and expanding Cobra's empire on a galactic scale.

Upon regrouping back at base, the Assault Recon Team deployed to Space Station Delta as a staging ground in preparation for a reconnaissance mission to the moon. Communications were lost and all transmissions ceased shortly after the team confirmed their intent to dock with the station.
